Assemblies

----  LX521 ----  ORION  ----  PLUTO  ----  Do-It-Yourself  ----

Do-It-Yourself products

The following is a list of DIY products that you can purchase. Follow the links for further details and ordering information.

LX521 Construction Kit  $300

ORION Construction Kit    $240
All the information to build a world-class speaker is provided. It is a 3-way active system. Two ASP circuit boards are included for assembling the Crossover/Equalizer and a ORION Test Signal CD for testing the electronics and the speakers. The completed speakers cost around $3700, without power amplifiers.
Optional products at additional cost:
Assembled and tested Crossover/Equalizer from Wood Artistry
        6 x 180W AT1806 power amplifier    $1850
        12 x 60W AT6012 power amplifier    $1950

ORION Cabinet Kits    $1400+
Precut, highest-grade Baltic Birch Plywood parts for easy assembly of the ORION speaker cabinets.

ORION Revision 0.1   $250
A revised midrange driver mounting scheme and easy to apply Conversion Kit.

PLUTO Construction Plans+    $190
A 2-way active loudspeaker with built-in power amplifiers for near-field listening. Its small footprint and light weight allow it to be used with optimum placement in any room. Sonically it is a close match to the ORION, except for the lowest frequencies.

PLUTO+ subwoofer   $100
Using two w-ASP printed circuit boards for adding subwoofers to PLUTO makes it a 3-way system and a worthy alternative to the ORION.

PHOENIX Construction Plans+    $240
A 3-way active speaker system with separate dipole woofers and MTM open baffle panels. A forerunner of the ORION and with a total output volume capability that exceeds what is tolerated in most home environments. Two ORION ASP circuit boards for assembling the Crossover/Equalizer are included with the documentation.
(Sufficient information for building the PHOENIX or designing a dipole speaker can be found on the Website CD, without purchasing the PHOENIX Construction Plans+, if you are experienced in active filter design.)

THOR Construction Plans+    $160
A closed box subwoofer for addition to an existing speaker system. The documentation gives specific information for adding THOR to the ORION and is meant for Home Theater applications. Two w-ASP circuit boards are included with the documentation.
(Sufficient information for building the THOR or designing a closed box woofer can be found on the Website CD, without purchasing the THOR Construction Plans+, if you are experienced in active filter design.)

ASP printed circuit board set (2)    $150
A general Analog Signal Processor topology for designing and building 2-way or 3-way active loudspeakers, for closed box or open baffle. Two ORION ASP circuit boards are included. The documentation provides only the ASP block diagram, component layout, and circuit topology. The actual circuit components need to be determined by the user. The ASP is targeted for advanced speaker builders with the necessary familiarity of electronic design.

w-ASP printed circuit board   $50
A specialized Analog Signal Processor topology for adding a woofer to a midrange or a subwoofer to an existing loudspeaker system. The documentation provides only the w-ASP circuit diagram, component layout, and material list for PLUTO+. The actual circuit components for a different application need to be determined by the user. The w-ASP is targeted for advanced speaker builders with the necessary familiarity of electronic design.

MT1 printed circuit board    $40
The circuit topology allows the design of 2-way speakers with crossovers of up to 24 dB/oct slope. Delay circuitry to compensate for tweeter offset, and for baffle diffraction, is provided. The pcb is ideally suited for a 1st time active loudspeaker project. A single MT1 pcb has left and right channels.

WM1 printed circuit board    $30
The circuit topology allows the design of dipole equalizers and the 'Linkwitz Transform' biquad. It is used for closed box or dipole woofer equalization. It has a notch filter for room or speaker equalization. In conjunction with the MT1 pcb it allows the design implementation of full-range 2-way speakers. A single WM1 pcb has left and right channels.

Toneburst Test Signal CD    $20
Special test signals for evaluating the low frequency accuracy of your room and loudspeaker combination.

Demo CD   $20
Demonstrate the capabilities of your loudspeakers with samples of my own recordings. I have used them to evaluate the reproduction accuracy of my speaker designs.

What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself
but what has drawn your attention
in the streams of superimposed air pressure variations
at your eardrums

An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space
Have they been recorded and rendered sensibly?
