The ORION is a loudspeaker that I would love to see in any music lover's home. I am convinced that it will provide endless hours of enjoyment. It is a speaker that disappears and instead lets you experience music as it has been captured in the making. "True to the original" has been my guiding principle. With the ORION I feel that I have achieved my dream of building a speaker that excels sonically, yet is reasonable in its size and visual impact. For amplification Joachim Gerhard recommends four Alesis RA 300 stereo power amplifiers which can deliver 8 x 90 W into 8 ohm, or alternatively, four Alesis RA 150 stereo power amplifiers for 8 x 45 W into 8 ohm.
I have recently heard complaints about these amplifiers, that they pass through power line switching transients which cause loud noise in the loudspeaker. This could be potentially dangerous for the tweeter. Also low level hum seems to be a problem. Proceed with caution if you decide for the Alesis power amplifiers.
